			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are times in just about everyone&#8217;s life when the question, &#8220;Am I suffering from depression?&#8221; emerges. The mere fact that you are asking yourself this question though isn&#8217;t necessarily a reason to seek out a prescription for an antidepressant.</p>
<p>Clinical depression can be distinguished from simply feeling unhappy or out of sorts. There are certain objectively identifiable symptoms that come forward when a person is clinically depressed:</p>
<p>How badly and continually has your mood changed your sleep patterns? Are you suffering from insomnia or are you forever sleeping?</p>
<p>Do things that you once liked &#8211; counting your family and friends &#8211; no longer bring you any pleasure?</p>
<p>Are you touchy and cantankerous, flared into argument with hardly any provokation?</p>
<p>Do you have frequent thoughts of death or suicide. Do these often become devastating and all-consuming?<br />

Everyone will feel upset and grieve from time to time. This is a normal part of life. However, clinical depression is constant and stubbornly resilient. Friends can tell you to snap out your unhappy mood, but if you are sincerely in a depressive state, it is not within your power to comply. Often too it is challenging for you to determine a specific reason for your angst. You know that you are deeply anxious, irritated or angry, and can give a hundred good reasons to justify your mood, but you&#8217;re not truly sure about what the source of the pain is!</p>
<p>So are you suffering from depression or just going through some hard times?</p>
<p>Life changing events and misadvetures, like a death in the family or a divorce, can cast you into a dark chasm of anxiety and gloom. This is to be expected. This type of pain is not to be diagnosed as an illness, as there is good reason for the negative emotions and feelings of dread. Not all pain and fear is a sign of illness. Healthy persons get anxious and fearful too. The difference is that their fears are realistic.</p>
<p>Grieving over the loss of someone you cherished or over the failure of a relationship is also normal and healthy, and should not be avoided. Indeed, geninue depression is sometimes the consequence of when the grieving process has been cut short and not allowed to run its course!</p>
<p>So how do we know when mental suffering has become a depression that calls for treatment? It&#8217;s when the painful emotions carrys on beyond the normal grieving period, or when they become all consuming, or when there is no obvious reason for the pain, that it is time to search for professional help.</p>
<p>If you are hunting to give yourself a self-diagnosis, ask yourself if your state of mind is interfering with your ability to persevere normally. Are you able to complete your regular tasks agreeably, in spite of your current outlook? Are you able to keep healthy relationships with co-workers, peers and family?</p>
<p>These sorts of questions are never easy to answer, more than ever if you are in the emotional throws of a life changing event. If in doubt though, always err on the side of caution, and speak to a professional.</p>

<p>When antidepressants are taken they increase the chemical activity in the brain, especially the neurotransmitters. The neurotransmitters are responsible for passing the signal from one brain cell to another. Thus the use of antidepressants can help the person to come out of depression.</p>
<p>One thing should be very clear about the actual status of one&#8217;s child, when they are to be given, the antidepressants. This is because they are not the normal form of medicines. These are to be taken only when prescribed by the doctor. There are some effects resulting from the intake of these antidepressants in the children. Some of these include the suicidal thinking in small children. But there are no any cases noted yet.</p>
<p>It is not that the antidepressants cannot be used to treat children. In fact there are a number of children who have cherished the advantages of these medicines. Also it can happen that if the disorder is not taken seriously in case of small children than they won&#8217;t be able to live a happy life.<br />

<p>Also it should be noted that the number of pills that should be taken at a time must not exceed much. Also when medicines are prescribed one has to be sure about how these are to be taken. One has to discuss that issue thoroughly with the health care person.</p>
<p>Once the antidepressant medication is started for one&#8217;s child one has to see that a proper dose is taken by the child. Also sometimes the child may feel like taking all the medicines at a single time. One has to look to this also. If it is beyond the control of the child they should be kept far away from its reach.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Antidepressants are not regarded as pharmacology and it is regarded individually from stimulants.They are also used for the treatment of various conditions consisting of anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and chronic pain. Some of the drugs are now called as lifestyle drugs and often known as mood brighteners</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">In case of clinical depression the individual suffers from intense sadness, melancholia or despair. In such case, the conditions are advanced at the extreme levels that finally result in the disruption of the social life of an individual.</p>

The antidepressants have their existence from long years back. There development is traced from the year 1950. There are a variety of antidepressants that are available in the market. There are almost thirty different types of the antidepressants that are developed today.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">The intake of antidepressants increases the chemical activity of the brain. Especially it increases the chemical activity of the neurotransmitters. The neurotransmitters are present in the brain. The antidepressants increase the chemical activities of these neurotransmitters and help the person to elevate his mood or to come out of depression.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Antidepressants are used in case of chronic pain, moderate to severe depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, severe anxiety and panic attacks, eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorder. There are cases when depression cannot be recovered by its own.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">One has to take the antidepressants to relieve one&#8217;s depression. If the antidepressant does not show their effect immediately one has to wait for a period of one to three months to help the antidepressant to show its effect.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The antidepressants are very risky when one takes the overdose. It can lead to death in some cases. The new antidepressants are less risky as compared to the old ones. One should eat the antidepressants only when prescribed by the doctor and not otherwise. Also since these antidepressants are dangerous they should be kept out of reach of the small children.</p>

The symptoms are debilitating and the sufferer will often deal with it throughout their lifetime. Another type of depression is called dysthymia. Its symptoms are not as severe as with major depression, but it can last for years. Manic-depression or bipolar disorder is another type of depression. The person with manic-depression swings from highs or manic states to lows or depressive states.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Major depression affects all facets of the person’s life. It can be the result of a stressful experience or it can be an accumulation of many stressful events and can last for many years. It is more common among women than men. The causes are not known, but may be related to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Symptoms include a loss of interest in activities that one used to find enjoyable, and a negative outlook. Treatment is usually in the form of talk therapy and medications only if needed.</p>

During the high periods they will experience a high level of energy, a short attention span and sleep very little. It affects as many men as it does women. The cause of bipolar disorder is unknown. It may be a chemical imbalance in the brain, genetics or environment. Medication is often used in treatment of bipolar disorder.</p>
